  • 1.  Metering 7.5 SP1 HF5 (3300) not working on Surface Pro

    Hello,

    I'm collecting Start/Stop events for a couple of exe in our environment.

    Metering is working on 99% of the workstations (over 18000) but on Surface Pro, events are not created.

    Weird is that on 150 Surface Pro, mostly Surface Pro 3, only around 10 have metering working the others are not.

    I applied the Surface Pro image on a virtual machine and it works. I also virtualized a non working Surface Pro and it works too.

    I understand that it is related to the hardware or a software component that is enabled on the Surface that is probably causing that problem.

     

    In "C:\Program Files\Altiris\Altiris Agent\", the AeXAMInventory.txt and AeXProcessList.txt files are not created.

     

    For debugging, I created a Reg Key to speedup the event creation and captured the events as per article:

    In lab, I also applied Point Fix 3772233 and Point Fix 3790130 but still not working.

    Anyone else has that problem?

    Any suggestion?

    interesting... we have surface pro 3s here and app metering is working...

    What OS do you have on them?

    i do see that you installed SP3 image in a VM and it works so does seem to be HW related...

    Is app metering agent installed - can you verify in agent window?

    thank you for your reply.

    On the 233 that are not working, I have Windows 8.1 Pro, Windows 8.1 Enterprise and Windows 10 Pro.

    On all, the Application Metering Agent is installed and version is 7.5.3300.0.

    Its related to hardware or to the installation. We have standard automated installations for our workstations. Its working on the other 18000 workstations but I think that for that specific Surface Pro 3 model, it may be a difgferent installation method.

    Unfortunately, I doubt that the staging specialist is able to pin point the differences in the installation.

    If I virtualise a non working tablet, when the VM is loaded, it is not using the same drivers for HW and I guess that it may be related.

    Also, I have a few that are comming from an other company that we aquired a few months ago and those were not installed the same way and still are not working.

    I'm just trying to collect Start/Stop events but the AeXAMInventory.txt and AeXProcessList.txt files are not created. I tried to follow the background processes using Sysinternals tools.

    I can see that, with the accelerated mode, the metering policy is looping like for a working plugin but it does not seem to trap that the process was started.

    I look for iexplore.exe and outlook.exe as test.

    Nothing.

    I guess that I will have to strip apps one by one until I find.

    Definitely weird. I do have 3 working 8.1 pro devices in altiris. If you need me to try or verify anything pm me...
