Microsoft Security Advisories?

Hi Everyone

I have a question for you.

What are Microsoft Security Advisories and should we install them?

For instance MS13-A02. When you look into it, it actually says MS13-038 has been released to resolve any issues to do with the Advisory.

The advisory has an MSI associated to it though.

I am a bit confused. I have looked up the information on the Microsoft Technet site but cannot make much sense of it.

"Microsoft has completed the investigation into a public report of this vulnerability. We have issued MS13-038 to address this issue. For more information about this issue, including download links for an available security update, please review MS13-038. The vulnerability addressed is the Internet Explorer Use After Free Vulnerability - CVE-2013-1347."

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/security/advisory/2847140

So my understanding is that MS13-A02 is not needed because it says that MS13-038 will fix the issues. So do I need to install the advisory or not?

Anyone out there got any more information for me?

Regards

Jason

I think that in this case the Security Advisory you're speaking of is actually the Microsoft Fixit MSI that was released prior to the patch availability.  The Fixit included a work around until the actual vulnerability could be fixed.

So, for this advisory, I'd say that if the patch is installed the application of the Fixit is irrelevant.
