SEP Management Console, 11.0.3001 ,is on a W2K3 DC. I am migrating the W2K3 R2 DC to W2K8 R2. That is, the W2K8 R2 DC will end up with the same services, name and IP as the W2K3 DC which will then be decommissioned. There's a TechNet article for exactly that scenario and we are using it.

I want the SEP Management Console to end up on the W2K8 R2 DC as well. But I don't want to go to trouble of upgrading W2K3 DC from 11.0.3001 to 11.0.4000 then 4202 then going thru a lot of steps to get it over to the W2K8 R2 DC. I only have 10 clients. Is is best /quickest just to install SEP fresh onto W2K8 R2, recreate policies, push out new 11.0.4202 package to clients from it and uninstall SEP Console on W2K3?

    Thanks,

    Hi Jremmc,

Considering the fact that you have 10 clients to be managed, I think the best and the quickest way will be install a new SEPM for MR4MP2 version on the Windows Server 2008 R2, deploy the clients. You can get the policies by either replication or by exporting policies from old SEPM, and import them in the new one. Using the export/import method you have a backup of your policies as well, whcih can be a good time saver.

jremmc, just in case you did not know, MR 5 will be out anytime and supports the W2K8 R2 OS. MR4 MP2 is not supported on that server OS.

I agree with Thomas. I guess I missed on the part where the seond OS was mentioned. You can apply my response to your situation, after MR5 gets released.
