  • 1.  Migrate NS 6 Agent to a NS 7 Server

I am trying to find the best migration method for moving agents from a 6.x NS server to a new 7.x Server.  Do you just send a command to them to run the AeXAgentUtil.exe using the /server switch?  Should you uninstall any of the installed plugins first?  Is there a certain order the new components need to install in?  I haven't been able to find much information on this part of the migration.  Everything seems to be related to migrating the data.

    thanks,

of the agent config policies (or run the aexagentutil /server job). Once they report to the NS 7 server they won't be able to do much of anything (maybe basic inventory) until you enabled the NS7 agent upgrade policy.

The best option and the safest bet, would be to completely uninstall the NS 6 agent core and subagents.  Then once the machine is clean, push the NS 7 agent out to the computers.

If that is not possible, from the NS 6 box you should uninstall the subagents (software delivery, inventory, etc.).  Once the subcomponents are removed, you can redirect the NS 6 agent to the NS 7 server, and enable the agent upgrade policy on the 7 box.

The redirect task and or /server methods both work but I've experienced these not working 100% of the time.  Upgraded client agents exhibit odd behaviour.

I'd go with Lery's suggestion for the best final product.

I'm in favour of the clean option. The last NS7 install I did I tried to aexagentutil /uninstall agents and install the NS7 agent to the "All clients with no additional agents" collection but the SWD task agent never showed as uninstalled so that colelction never got populated.

Gave up and used DS with aexagentutil /clean then fresh NS7 agent install.

Worked like a charm and you can leave the job active on machines that are turned off to run when they come on.

to NS7 I expect we'll create a custom package/script.  Our situation will be particularly hairy as we have Recovery Solution in the mix.  The good news is (so far at least) that you can have an NS7 agent talkign to an NS7 box, but still have the Recovery 6.2 agent installed.  Snapshots still work, and if necessary you can create FSR ISO from the old NS6 box.  We'll have a "side-by-side" upgrade I'm sure.  What gives me heartburn though is the migration of the RS clusters from the NS6 box to the NS7/RS7.  We'll almost have to do everything at once since there isn't any other logical partitioning of machines to RS clusters.  Good times.. :)

... upgrading agent of a PS?

We are going, most likely,  to perform an off-box upgrade. We will use same PS that we will convert to Site Servers. Since many of these servers are in sites where network links are slow, how can I prevent the server to delete the Packages?

I cannot find any topic related to that... is there any?
