Migrate from one EV srv to a new one (new HW) using Building Blocks failover?

This issue has been solved. See solution.

Hello,

I have an existing production EV 7.5 installation with 2 servers (in Building blocks) running on VM.
Target platform is: 2 physical servers running EV8.0 (SP1)

One idea of achieving this was:
1) Upgrade the existing virtual EV servers to 8.0
2) Install the new 8.0 EV servers and joind them to the existing directory.
3) Do a building block failover from the virtual to the new EV servers
4) Decommision the virtual ones.

But I'm afraid that this is not a valid scenario because the physical servers will be running in a "fail-over" mode forever from then on.
Maybe a simple SQL manipulation can rectify this?

Another scenario (but more complicated):

1) Upgrade both virtual EV servers to 8.0
2) Install 1 physical EV server and execute procedure “How to move Enterprise Vault to a new server” (http://support.veritas.com/docs/293911). This procedure seems to address a replacement of a failed EV server, so it may not be the optimal solution to migrate from a live EV server to a new one.

3) Install second physical EV servers and execute same procedure
4) Decommission virtual servers

thanks for any help,

Francis

If I was you I would do the

If I was you I would do the following:

Upgrade VM's to v8, once you happy that the upgrade was successful I would do a DR not USL to the physical server

The easiest way would be by calling the physical servers the same name as the vms, not needed just follow the SQL steps in the above technote.

If you can keep the name you looking @ 5min TOPS if you know what you doing :)

Just to be sure: The Symantec

Just to be sure: The Symantec technote 293911 talks about "the steps to move a single Enterprise Vault (EV) directory server environment ". But my original environment is already a Buidling Blocks setup, so technically speaking it has already 2 Directory Services.

Is the technote also valid for migrating an USL setup to 2 new servers?

Thanks in advance

Francis

yes and no, its a little

yes and no, its a little confusing yes you do have two directory services however this is all goes back to the old days when you could only have one per install. now you have one on each server.

Ignore that part, as i said use DR not USL, DR will work for 2 servers onto 2 new clean servers-  if you USL it you going to have hosted services and stuff. do it the right way which is DR...
