We have a package server installed on a legacy hardware box. recently we received a New VM server with similiar configuration but different hostname

Could you tell me the process to migrate the package server role from one physical server to VM server. we also need to move the packages and other related settings to the server VM. We want the new package server to report to the Cetral notification server

Then delete the old one once the new one has all the packages.

If you want to prevent too much network traffic you could copy the Packages across manually once the Package Server Agent is installed on the new Server.

Currently all the client machines are reporting to the old package server, how do i ensure that they are report to a new package server

Clients do not report to a package server. It's their download location for packages.

The Notification server evaluates possible download locations and sends them (UNC Path/URL) to the clients. The clients will just use them.

It's totally dynamic.

Just add the new Server as a new Package Server

Then delete the old one once the new one has all the packages.
