Hi

Is there any issues with doing a migrate directly from 10.x to Mr4 mp2.

Should I remove 10.x first or is it okay to installed SEP on a machine where 10.x is installed.

The reason for why I'm asking is because I have seen some funny issues on clients where I have installed SEP Mr3 upon a 10.x, so at the moment I'm removeing SAV and the install SEP.

The issues I have seen is, no connection to SEPM, can't start the SEP service, blue screen, problems updating def.

If I then used cleanwipe to clean the machine and then reinstalled SEP on a clean machine there was no problems.

It should work fine.

You can deploy mr4mp2 on SAV 10.x and it should automaticaly upgrade it to 11 , but if you can affoed to remove sav from all the computers then that would be the best option.Clean install is always preffered over upgrade.

Have you tried this yourself

Have you tried this yourself or ?

I have just tried to upgrade a 10.1.7.7000 to Mr4 mp2.

The installatiom seems to go well most of the way.

Sav is removed, SEP is installed and the client is added to the default group in SEPM.

So fare so good, but there is no green dot on the client and if I try to open SEP, it says that the service haven't been startet.

If I push yes to start, it start a msiexec thing and aften that opens the SEP client,  were there are 3 errors. Nothing seems to work.

I have then tried to reboot the client and when it is back insite windows, it starts repairing the SEP installation again.

There are no problem if I install on a clean machine and I have before tried to install SEP 11 (first release) onto a SAV client without any issues.

Maybe it is time to open a support request :-)

Something Enviromental

I tried this and it worked for me in my test Environment ( thats diffrent story every things works fine in testing bu not in production) but still i feel that there is something enviromental that is blocking it..
Thats true you should go ahead and open a ticket with symantec.
But the problem that you are saying is this on one computer or many computers?
Then they'll run cleanwipe and try and install
If you have about 20 computes they'll suggest you to run cleanwipe on all them and do the deployment.
This would be the first question even support will ask.

Have tried this on a couple of machines until now and 12 citrix dev servers.

>Then they'll run cleanwipe and try and install
Yep, have tried this and this works flawless.

>If you have about 20 computes they'll suggest you to run cleanwipe on all them and do the deployment.
Yeah, but what about around 10.000 :-) Cleanwipe is not that automatic :-)

At the moment we have scriped a uninstall of SAV10 and then we install SEP afterwards. But there is this moment between without antivirus that I'm not so fond of:-)

Hi, The issue you are facing

Hi,

The issue you are facing while upgrading from SAV to SEP i.e installer pop up , it indicates that the installation is incomplete.

Also, many a times ,since the installation is still going on in the background and you try to open SEP it might just make the complete installation a mess.

I understand that uninstalling SAV and reinstalling SEP and leaving clients without antivirus is not an option. And Symantec never wants its customers to be left unprotected.

Hence try the following on just one client right now:

1: Push SEP installation on top of SAV.(Make sure there aint any scheduled scans for SAV at that time also if possible exit out of all other applications.)

2; As soon as you see SEP under all programs, dont try to open it.Wait untill you see a yellow shield icon in the task bar.

3; Also you can check application logs to make sure that SEP is installed completely.

I know it is cumbersome to try the same steps over and over again, but it is important for us to isolate the issue.

Hence try these steps once if possible and let us know the outcome.
