Migrate SEPM server to new OS

  • 1.  Migrate SEPM server to new OS

    Posted Oct 07, 2014 08:05 PM

    Hi.

I am testing on SEPM migration from Win2003 to Win2008 R2.

I have followed "Disaster Recovery" to do the migration.

    http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH160736

After performed Step 4 on disaster recovery to restore the database, a "Management Server Configuration Wizard" appear again.

Do I need to do it one more time (same as Step 2 after installation of SEPM) ??

Or I can cancel it ??

    Thanks

Step 4 is restoring the DB, different from Step 2

    Yes, I known it.

My meaning is after step 4, "Management server configuration" pop-up again.

Do I need to do it again ? Since it same as step 2

Yes, step 4 is the restore. It needs to be done. It's different than step 2

This mean I have to use the recovery file for 2 times. First in SEPM installation and second after DB restored.

    Am I right ?

    Thanks

If you've already done the back up (step 4) it shouldn't come up again. You should be done after step 4.

Actually, I have tried in testing environment.

    1) fresh install

    2) after installation completed, management server configuration appear >>> cancel it or use recovery file ?

    3 restore DB

    4) management server configuration shown again, then recovery

First you can install complete SEPM and confirm you are able to login in sepm console.

    Than you can restore database

    Restore

To restore the database from the backup you should first stop Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager service. Then go to Start – All Programs – Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager – Backup and Restore and choose Restore.

OK, is this means step 2 can do any setting because I will restore with recovery file after DB restoreed in step 4 ?

    ------------

    1) fresh install

    2) after installation completed, management server configuration appear >>> not important for setting ?

    3 restore DB

    4) management server configuration shown again, then recovery
