  • 1.  Migrate SQL 2k8 R2 Express -> 2005 Standard

    Posted Dec 12, 2011 04:27 PM

    Does anyone know if there are documents related to migrating a SMP 7.1 database from SQL 2k8 R2 Express to 2005 Standard?

    I would like to start using IT analytics, however Express edition does not support the required services for IT Analytics :(

    Plan is to install SQL 2005 Standard with Reporting Services & Analysis services, so I can use IT Analytics.

    Notes:

    SQL 2008 R2 Express is running on the same box.

    I would like to run SQL 2005 on the same box as well for performance reasons (don't have any good boxes to run SQL on right now).

    Suggestions?

    Thanks!

    You can install SQL 2005 AS/RS on the same box as 2008 R2, though I don't know if 2005 will be able to handle a DB created in 2008 R2.  (Keep the power of SQL 2008 R2 and leverage AS/RS from 2005 if needed.)

    You should even be able to use SQL AS/RS 2008 R2 as long as you have the necessary .dlls that ITA requires from 2005 unless they've fixed that.  I'm pretty sure it tells you everthing you need in the docs...
