  • 1.  Migrate Symantec Corporate Edition 8.1 to 10.1 MR9.

    I need to migrate SAV Corporate Edition 8.1 to 10.1 MR9 that offered free from university’s IT dept.

    I obtained a document that outlines the procedure from Symantec’ website.  It states that SSC, LiveUpdate and Quarantine Server and Console have to be uninstalled before upgrade.

    I’m new to this position and first time upgrade SAV.  So my questions:

    1. How can I know if I have LiveUpdate and Quarantine installed? I do see SSC in Add/Remove Program list, but not the LiveUpdate and Quarantine.
    2. How to uninstall LiveUpdate and Quarantine

    We have SAV Corporate Edition 8.1 installed on Windows 2003 server.

    I could not find the information, and will appreciate any help from you!

    You don't see Liveupdate Administrator and Quarantine Server/Console in the Add/Remove Programs then it means its not there.

    Quarantine Server or Liveupdate Administrator would both show up in the SSC, so you should be OK!  Don't perform the migration through RDP and don't skip a reboot!!

    Uninstall SSC, Reboot

    Run SAV Server 10.1.9 install, Reboot

    Install new SSC, Reboot

    ect

    Hi J123,

    Thank you for your help! What does RDP stand for?

    RDP = Remote Desktop Protocol

    Basically, make sure you're sitting at the computer when you're doing these (un)installs.

    Remote Desktop Protocol, if you can't get physically local to the system you can use RDP to "remote it", this is using a shadow copy of the registry and if the migration is perfomed from within RDP, as SAV is registry dependant for everything, the migration will fail.
