  • 1.  Migrated from SEP 12.1.5 to 12.1.6 now live update doesn't work

Live update worked the first day or two after the upgrade of the management console and all of the clients. When I checked on it this morning I noticed it was missing the latest updates. Error in the Live Update Status shows Return code = 4. I've gone through the KBs for that error and it hasn't changed anything. I have also rebooted the server several times and still get the same error. Anything else I can try?

Please run the symhelp tool to perform error checking. Also what shows in the log.liveupdate file in terms of errors?

I'd highly recommend following the below article for troubleshooting Liveupdate issues on a SEPM.  I've always found it quite handy:

    Hi,

Return code 4 is pretty common error.

Are you able to run liveupdate manually? If possible monitor subsequent liveupdate schedule.

If error continues check liveupdate logs, article shared above can be helpful as well.

    Live update includes 2 stages.

    1) Downloading the latest definition

    2) Installing the downloaded definition.

Error code 4 means that liveupdate failed to download the definition from Symantec over Interrnet.

Please follow the document at the link below and look for connection failures caused by proxy or firewall and fix it.
