Migrating from AV 10.0 to SEM 12.1 stand alone client

Hello,

I'm migrating a standalone version of Symantec Anti-Virus 10.0 to Endpoint Protection 12.1 unmanaged Client. I've found various articles about migrating, but they all seem to be focused on the managed versions.

I image it's fairly straightforward, but is there a guide or a procedure for migrating between these standalone versions please? I know there are viruses on this server which are in quarantine so I've got to be careful.

I'm not really sure there is a best practice for doing this.

You can push an unmanaged package via SCCM, Altiris, etc. Is this something youplan to use?

Otherwise you would need to touch each machine to do an install/upgrade.

How many machines do you have?

Oh, it's only 1 server I need to do!

I think if I follow these general guide lines It'll be ok

I suppose what I really wanted to know is, if I install SEP without uninstalling anti-virus 10.0, will it just install over the top of it?

Yes, SEP will upgrade over the top (uninstall SAV10) and install SEP 11

Hello,

Correct, It would migrate over the SAV 10.x, you may not require uninstallation of SAV 10.x unmanaged client.

Migration detects and migrates installations of the following Symantec legacy virus protection software:

• Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition 9.x and 10.x.
• Symantec Client Security 2.x and 3.x
• Symantec Endpoint Protection Small Business Edition 12.0
• Symantec Endpoint Protection 11.x *
• Symantec Sygate Enterprise Protection *
• Symantec AntiVirus for Mac *

Hi,

Even though you have unmanaged client you can install Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager

Export unmanaged client and deploy on SAV 10.x machine

Why it's important because the 12.1 installation package uses a new method to migrate an existing installation which performs the migration the next time the client restarts

So with this method quarantine items will remain in quarantine only.
