    Hi their.

Currently, we have SAV 10.x and will be upgrading to SEP 11 MR4.

The Parent server is actually in a data warehouse and we do not have physical access to it.

I just have a few question I would love answered.

I am really doing research for someone else who doesnt have the time so I'm not 100 percent sure on these issues.

Is upgrading through Remote Desktop Connection a problem?
Is their any firewall that is installed with SEP 11? If so, it is not going to block out port 3389 is it?
    Is a restart required?

    Thanks very much guys

You maybe talking about NTP (Network Threat Protection), you can include this package and just enable it after the migration.

Hi. Thanks for the reply- so when I upgrade to SEP, does it give me the option of installing the network threat protection? We have a pretty good firewall and actually have no interest in any firewall/threat protection software provided by Symantec- we are really only after the AntiVirus/AntiSpyware protection.

This depends on you, if your workstations are already behind a corporate firewall, then you dont need to include this package.

You will have the option not to include this to the package.

In SEPM under Admin -> Install Packages -> Client Install Settings you can either use the default installation settings, or define your own (which you then can use when creating installation packages

There are also sample install packages in.

other switches that maybe useful for you

    Hi Paul.

Thanks very much for the replies.

I am more concerned about the Parent Server having the NTP installed, as its a terminal server and if this was to be installed and block off port 3389, a lot of downtime would be incurred.

Obviously I am going to create a small test environment for this, but just wanted to double check that when upgrading our parent server, we had the option of not installing NTP as we don't want Remote Desktop connection to be blocked.

Also- is a system restart required after the upgrade?

    Cheers

Hi sir, Symantec recommends not to install NTP on servers as it may cause system slowdown/downtime depending on the applications used. That's why in my previous company we only install the AV and AS component.

Thanks very much for the advice.

Think that has answered my question actually.
Just wanted to make sure as didnt want our terminal server access to be unavailable due to the migration.

    Cheers
