This issue has been solved. See solution.

I am in the middle of a migration from Sophos to Symantec Endpoint Protection.  Can you please let me know if there is an easy way to centrally remove Sophos from all client PCs and then roll out Symantec?

Thanks

James

hi

you need to use the competative uninstaller found in CD2

Symantec_Endpoint_Protection_11.0.5_AllWin_EN_CD2\Tools\NoSupport\CompetitiveUninstall
the scrip has
Sophos_AV_7.3.aut
read the pdf, you should be good to go from that.

You should be able to use the

You should be able to use the Find Unmanaged Computers option in SEPM to detect PCs w/o SEP and push SEP to those PCs. I've used it to remove McAfee and install SEP.

Glad you found this site

Glad you found this site helpful Jimmy. Come back and let us know if you had any troubles using the competitive uninstall program or pushing SEP out from the SEPM server.

Also since you are new to the forums I just wanted to make sure that you knew you should come back and mark the answer that helped you most as the "Solution". That way the person's you marked gets points towards things like iPods or Gift Cards. It also helps future users to quickly navigate to the best answer.

Thanks,
Grant

help

Hi all

Thanks again for this.  So to get this to remove Sophos from all clients do I need to run this in my logon script or can I do it another way?  We have the Enterprise Edition so if there is another way please let me know.  Another things is we are running Sophos 7.6.17 and the only Script I can find in the Scripts directory of the Competitive uninstaller is for 7.3

I really want to remove and rollout the new software during a normal working day and not after hours.

Thanks

James

So there is no other way?

So there is no other way?  The guy at Symantec mentioned another option but I can't remember what it was now.  It was instead of using the competitive uninstaller. I really don't want all my users having to log off and back on in order to remove it.  I would like to do it silently.

Thanks

James

hi

navigate to

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\ WINDOWS\CURRENT VERSION\UNINSTALL
registry key and look for the subkey dealing with uninstalling sophos

put in a notepad

MsiExec.exe /norestart /q/x{BA4B71D1-898E-4306-AE87-8BA7A596F0ED} REMOVE=ALL

use it as log on script.. its similar to the PM which I have sent you

Hi James, As others have

Hi James,

As others have said, there are many different ways you can remove your existing AV and get SEP installed.  To a certain extent it also depends on what sort of solution you are looking for.  At the moment, here are your options:

1. Using the competitive removal tools on the CD - as you have seen, we have a number of scripts, and its very easy to add your own.  Using some of the other utilties in the same location (such as the CompetitiveUninstallWrapper) you can actually get SEPM to push an entire package containing the uninstall of Sophos and the install of SEP, all in one.

2. We have a great little utility called "SEPPrep" which will ship on the RU6 CD which does a similar job, but actually searches through Add/Remove programs looking for AV/Security programs and removing them, then installs SEP - PM me if you want an early copy that you can use today.

3. Since we bought Altiris several years ago, we also have a cut down version of their software deployment tools that will first run an inventory and tell you what products you have installed (products, versions, etc.) then remove them and install SEP - since its based on a "proper" software delivery solution, it has really powerful things in like bandwidth management, local package distribution, etc.  If you don't already have an enterprise lifecycle management tool, then this is a great route to take.

Not sure where you are located... but there maybe somebody closer than you think who could help you out with this stuff (all the folks in our PM team love helping new customers migrate!) so if you want a hand, feel free to send me a message here on Connect and we can probably hook you up!
