I have been through the Knowledge Base and I can't find a migration guide.

Can I automate client updates?  Can I install the new server in-place?  Is there some automatic settings migration?

"Symantec Endpoint Protection 11.x (manager and client) must be uninstalled via add/remove programs before installing Symantec Endpoint Protection Small Business Edition."

Ah, so there is no migration path.  That's a bummer.

    Hi Swade --

Some background on Multi-tier Protection SBE and Protection Suite SBE are both Suites witih multiple products.

Multi-tier SBE contains SEP 11.x (endpoint security),  SMS for Exchange (mail security) with Anti-SPamand few other products

Protection Suite SBE contact SEP SBE 12.0 (endpoint security), SMS for Exchagne (mail security with Anti-Spam, Backup Exec System Recovery for Desktops and few other products.

So when you move to Protection Suite SBE, you do you have move from SEP 11 to SEP SBE 12.0.

There are 2 components to it:

    1) The Clients
    2) The Management Server

The Clients can be simply upgraded from SEP 11.x clients to SEP SBE 12.0 clients using the SEP SBE 12 management server. The new management server has a Client Deployment Wizard which can push out clients to all the endpoints on your network.

However, for the management server you have to uninstall the SEP 11.x management server and install the SEP SBE 12.x management server. Policy migration is not supported. This is primarily because these are 2 different prodcuts with different features and so there is no 1:1 mapping of all policies.

Hope that helps. Feel free to ask more questions and we can try and help you through the install.

    best regards,

    Nimesh.

    Thanks Nimesh, that's much clearer.

Is the Exchange Mail Security component directly upgradeable or would the older version need to be uninstalled from the Exchange server and newer version then installed?

Just so I am clear:  the clients could keep the V.11 client and have the V.12 client pushed out to them by the new management server without interruption of security?

    Thanks again!

    Hi Swade

On Exchange mail security, I am pretty sure that it should upgrade but I am not an expert in that area maybe others from Symantec support can comment. It will be helpful to know what version you currently have deployed and what you are going to.

You are right that clients that have v.11 will be upgraded to v.12 as soon as you push the new client software from the management server. There will be no interrruption in security.

There are several videos available that can help you prepare for the installation and deployment.
