This issue has been solved. See solution.

Hello!

Does anybody tried to migrate NetBackup from 32-bit to 64-bit (x86_64, not ia-64) on Windows platform? (2003 in both cases).

I could not find anything about this in the knowledgebase, which is very strange  just because of memory limitations at 32-bit platforms this procedure should be quite popular nowadays.

Any ideas?

if it's the same server then

if it's the same server then you blow away the OS and install Windows 2003 x64

not sure if you can backup and restore the catalog. worst case you install NB on x64 and have to import all of your tapes

actually we have two identical servers

one with 32-bit windows and second with 64-bit one.

It's practically impossible to import of all of the tapes, because we have thousands of them.

try this set up a test

try this

set up a test environment with the same domain. you can create a domain controller, put it in the test environment and then delete it from production. set up the 64 bit server with the same name in the test domain and restore the catalog. see if it works

Update

Actually the solution is simple.
Call your Symantec sales, pay for a consulting, they will bring "merge utility" which is able to migrate even from windows to linux or aix and do it for you.

Unfortunately there is no free beer :(

So, it's really works.
