  • 1.  Mimicking NS6 software sequential delivery tasks in NS7

    Hi all,

I'm trying to mimick the sequential software delivery task functionality I had in NS6 with Managed software delivery policies in NS7, but I can't seem to get it to work the same.  Here's what I would like to happen:

    1) In NS6, I was able to create a SSD, and add as many applications as I want to it.  These applications would run in order.  I would associate this SSD to my newly imaged workstations.

    2)  When my newly imaged machine (that has no applications installed in it) was added to the collection and I updated the Altiris Agent to get the updated policy, the SSD would begin running immediately.  This didn't requier any reboots or anything like that.

In NS7, I've created my software resources.  I do not set any detection or applicability rules.  I also do not set any associations for any of the resources.

I then create a Managed Software Delivery policy.  I add all of the software resources into that policy.  For each resource, the complicance option is grayed out.  Under Remediation, I have checked "Override Remediation schedule" and selected the "Immediately" check box.

Under Schedule, I have set a time and repeat of daily, which by the way, doesnt accomplish what I want, but it was the only way I could get something to happen.  I also set the "Immediately" option under Remediation here as well.

Now, on my client, I see the policy take effect.  My newly imaged machine recognizes it needs this policy, but thats all that happens.  Sometimes the status of the policy would be "Not compliant", but after that nothing happens.   At first, I noticed that only some of my resources in this policy had a date next to the detection check, but others didnt.  I removed the resources that didn't have a detection check date next to them, but still nothing happened.  The pacakge wouldn't get downloaded, no information about any of the resources would popuate in the agent.

Finally, I removed all but one resource from the policy, and all of a sudden, that application worked.  It downloaded and installed.

I'm not seeing any error messages in both the server or client logs, so I must be misconfiguring something.  Can someone tell me how I can set this up so that I can get the same functionality as I had with the SSD's in NS6?

    Thanks

I think I found out why my applications weren't installing.  I think the policy was getting confused as I was setting a remediation option in each individual software resource in the policy, and also in the scheduling section.  Once I removed the remediation options from the software resources, my installations started working.

Now, all I need is a way to have the compliance check happen immediately, instead of on a schedule.  Is there any way to do that?
