  • 1.  Missing Operating System - How to Fix ?

Had a bad Ghostcast situation today and need some advice on how to correct the problem.  Started a clone operation from the Console (2.5).  All of the target workstation showed as connected.  However, for reasons that are unclear, one of the workstations had failed to join the Ghostcast session even though it showed as connected to the console.  So, I chose to stop the clone operation.  The workstations that were working had booted into the virtual partition and were waiting for the Ghostcast session to start.

Being impatient and thinking that the Ghostcast session was taking much to long to close, I manually killed the task on the server.  The client computers then rebooted and now only show "missing operating system".

So, is there a way to correct this?  I've already tried running ghreboot on them with no luck.  I'm really not sure if the prior workstation config is still on the hard drive or not.  Or if its simply a matter of the boot partition being incorrectly configured.  Or something else.

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,

At which point where the other workstations hen you killed the process on the server ? Was the ghosting process in progress or were they waiting to start the transmission of the image to the work stations ?

Assuming you have a WinPE boot CD or bootable USB device available, you could try booting that up and then have a look at the content of the hard disk on one of your machines. If the operating system folder structure is intact then it may be a case of fixing the boot sector or setting the partition to active if it is not currently active.
What operating system are you running by the way?

In case you don't happen to have a WinPE bootable device, you can make one by following the instructions at

The Ghostcast session was waiting for 1 computer (out of a total of 24) to connect.  The other computers had already connected and were waiting for the session to start.

I briefly used ghpart32 to peek at the partitions and they are listed as 'unformatted".
