  • 1.  Missing Virus Definitions and/or Scan Engine

    Posted Dec 03, 2008 03:45 PM

I have a client machine (actually a test bench server, which is idle at the moment) that loses its virus defs or scan engine periodically (once or twice a week).

I guess I should preface this by saying that we are running SAV Corporate Edition 10.0.2.2000, which is managed.

When this client loses it's defs or scan engine, I am unable to either update the defs remotely or reinstall the scan engine remotely.  What i've had to do is manually uninstall the client, then restart the machine, then remotely install the client again.

This is not a good solution as this server will be going live in the next few weeks.

Has anyone had this problem before?  Any ideas?

    Thanks,

    Jacob

    Hi,

I know that if you call support, they will first say upgrade to the latest version, so I think you should do that. The latest is 10.1.8.8000.

And if I don't want to call support.  Say, if I want to ask some people on a forum who might have had this same problem at one time or another, what do you think one might suggest...

I believe I suggested something already, but I would be interested to hear why you would not want to upgrade the client? Or call support?

Sorry about the snotty tone of that last post.  I apologize.  That was inappropriate of me.

We are not yet in a position to upgrade our SAV Server.  We have about 300 clients on an old server, which works just fine for what we need.  We are a non-profit org.

I don't mind calling support, but if they are just going to tell me to upgrade, that won't be very helpful.  I was just wondering if anyone has had this problem with this version before.  And if anyone was able to resolve the issue without upgrading to a newer version.

    Thanks for your time.

You are talking about a single client that has the problems, right? So you could just upgrade that and then do the server and 300 clients when you are ready. If there still are problems, Symantec support will provide you a debug tool that you can run and send the result back to support for investigation.

I'll give that a try.  Thank you very much for your help!
