MMSs periodicaly disconnects from Central Server in BE2010 R3

Created: 30 Oct 2012 | 7 comments

Hello everyone,

Please me some solution...

We have Backup Exec 2010 R3 deployment with Central Server and multiple MMSs.

From time to time, usually once per 2-3 days, MMSs (sometimes all, sometimes - just few of them) stop to send reports to Central Server and in Central Server console I see that MMSs appears offline. But i'm sure that they're online.

If I stop and restart services on Central Server - MMSs will appear online again.

Also, seems that this happenes when server got in the windows logs the following message:

Faulting application name: beserver.exe, version: 13.0.5204.122, time stamp: 0x4eecd23b
Faulting module name: msgq.dll, version: 13.0.5204.0, time stamp: 0x4d94cbd7
Exception code: 0xc0000005
Fault offset: 0x000000000005918d
Faulting process id: 0x%9
Faulting application start time: 0x%10
Faulting application path: %11
Faulting module path: %12
Report Id: %13

Please help-help!

Thanks in advance.

You have the option to set the type of line speed that your MMS is on, which is done on the MMS's properties on the CASO.

Change this to a slower link and set the option to send updates less often and see if this works.

The problem is that some of MMSs connected to the Central Server via LAN ... :(

...which is how ALL MMS servers communicate with the CASO. Updates are sent via the LAN.

I mean - some servers connected via VPN tunnels (slow bandwith) and some - via direct LAN (1gbit\s)

...doesn't matter. Just do this as a test. You need to adjust this setting manually, otherwise BE just goes with the default setting available.

Ok, thanks for the suggestion ... but still after 4-5 days of operating, I get some of the server appears to be offline in management console of the central server :( ...

Here are my settings....

Delete all "msgq*.dat" found in "Installed Drive:\Program Files\Symantec\Backup Exec\Data" from both the CAS and all MMS servers...and then start Backup Exec services on the CAS and MMS servers...and try increasing the time from 60 to 120 under active job status..
