I am trying to update a package, a modified batch file, and I am recieiving the error "Failed to process package manifest." Futher invesitgation in the logs do not reveal too much more other than the added line "becuase it is being used by another process. I can not find what other processes may be using it as there is no job/ task or policy referencing this package. Below if what the log says:

    Log File Name: C:\ProgramData\Symantec\SMP\Logs\a.log

    Priority: 1

    Process: w3wp (33132)

    Thread ID: 1023

    Module: w3wp.exe

    Source: Altiris.SoftwareManagement.PackageRepository.PackageRepositoryManager.ProcessManifest

Description: Failed to process package manifest: The process cannot access the file '\\server\SoftLib\MyPackage (GUID)\Setup.bat' because it is being used by another process.

At the moment, my "work around" is to delete the current package (which for some reason remains in the softlib folder) and recreate the package with the updated\ modified script,

This is driving me nuts, any help would be appreciated...

If you are trying to update an actual physical file, why don't you do so directly from the source and then allow the "Update Distribution Points" scheduled task to run, which will then cause any PS/client to download the changed file once they request a new configuration?

Which process is holding the file?

fetch process explorer from sysinternals.com, search the filename for open handle and check the property for that
