Monitoring custom log files

Created: 02 Aug 2012 | 2 comments

Hi, I'm new to Altiris and I have been trying to figure this one out all day, as well as searching the forums.  Our application writes custom error logs and I'd like to monitor those custom logs for critical errors.

Here is what I have so far and I dont know why it is not working, it's a basic log file with <date/time> - <error/warning/info> - <log contents>.

Log file location on target computers: "D:\Logs\<app name>.log"

Altiris Monitor Command Metric: "Name:<AppName_CMDMetric> "Input File: D:\Logs\<app name>.log", "Parsed Lines: blank for all", "Return value column: 0"

Rule:  "If <AppName_CMDMetric> Contains Constant Value ERROR", "Severity: Critical", "Task Server: Send Email"

Monitor policy: Contains the above rule.

The monitor policy is applied and on the agent, I can see it listed in the agent diagonstics window.

Thais seems like a fairly simple metric/rule to create but I just cant get it to work.  Are there any walkthroughs or documentation out there other than the user guide?

Thanks in advance

This link is either missing, moved, or just plain broken. Could you resubmit it. I am trying to find any help I can on custom event log monitoring.
