This issue has been solved. See solution.
BE 11d build 7170 sp2. I have been swapping between 2 USB drives for backups. They are assigned different
drive letters and have worked fine for the last year. I have a B2D folder on each drive. Daily1 on drive
#1 and Daily2 on drive #2. Both these folders are put in a device pool called "Daily" I pause the B2D
folder on the drive that is not connected so BE doesn't try to use it and get errors. Recently after
swapping drives the job would hang indefinately with the status "Queued" until I would cancel it and get
 the following error:
Drive and media mount requested: 2/20/2008 9:03:30 AM - Error - Mount failed.Operation aborted
Yet a test run of the job would work just fine and I could see the contents of the folder in "devices."
I could view the drive and move files in windows explorer. The only thing that would fix the problem is
a reboot. Just prior to posting this I found that if I Inventory the b2d folder it will work as well.
Does anyone know what may be causing this? Is this the result of a "hot fix?"

Try to use the wizzard found in: Tools -> Wizards -> Hot Swappable Device Wizzard every time time you need to change disks.

I tried the wizard but it kept telling me to close the console which was already closed.  I found another solution.  After the drives are swapped go to "Devices" tab, right click and Inventory a folder.  This seemed to make the error go away.
