Move Client via IP subnet

Created: 09 Dec 2013 • Updated: 11 Dec 2013 | 11 comments

Hello,

I have been using the moveclient.vbs using the host name and it has been working out real good.  Now I want to move clients, based on IP and I can't seem to get it to work.

As per the directions, I am putting in the IP address a comma, then the path. but it doesn't clear the machines in the default group that match this criteria.

Example:  10.189.0.0/16, Test\ChildGroup

Why isn't this working?

Hope this articles help you.

Please read the Sample-Subnetgroups.txt file.
It will give you an example of the entries to make and the correct way to format them.

The entries should look like:

172.24.20.171,marketing
10.0.0.0,Group1 (#Comment: This references the subnet. Do not include this comment in the line.)
192.168.0.1-192.168.0.254,Group1\subgroup1 (#Comment: This references the IP address range. Do not include this comment in the line.)
172.16.0.0,Group2\subgroup1
172.24.255.254,Group2\subgroup2
207.33.111.27,Group3

How to use SEP11.x Move Client Utility and Subnetgroups.txt script to move clients into a new group.

This is what I get in the log file, I know the matching clients are in there.

12/9/2013 8:50:33 AM : Start structure metadata Query
 ::Get group structure metadata
  ::Success
 ::Processing log.txt
 ::10.189.0.0 -|- default -|- Test\ChildGroup
 ::Checking for clients to move
  ::No clients found that need to be moved.
  ::Could not find client '10.189.0.0' in domain 'default'.

 ::Get group structure metadata
  ::Success

 ::10.189.7.239 -|- default -|- Test\ChildGroup

That IP address is in the default group right now.

I like the move.vbs, just not sure why it wouldn't work.  The powershell script seems like a good idea, but I prefer if someone can tell me what is wrong with the .vbs script I am running.

Have you tried using a /24 instead of /16?
