Move Evault to new hardware on 64bit OS with same server name

Hi guys,

Can someone point me to a document with instructions to move my Evault to new server running 64bit OS.  The new hardware will be brought up with the same name and drive letters for index and a few of the vault stores.  I will need to move some of the vault store to another drive letter on the new server, but everything else will be same.

Hey there,

The documentation you'll need depends on the server and version you're coming from. The procedure's a bit different coming from a 32-bit server with EV 9 or ealier than it is going from 64-bit to 64-bit.

Here's a few articles that should help:

http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?pag...

This provides procedures for moving from any version to EV10.0.x. There's the manual method and the method using EV's migration tool. I prefer manual myself, but both work well.

For moves on pre-10 versions, you should use this article:

Good luck!

Thanks for the reply,

I'm currently on EV8SP5 and will not be upgrading.  Just migrated from 32bit to 64bit on new hardware.  I found a bunch of post related to this, but majority of them focused on EV9 and EV10.

You'll want to use that second link then. 8.0.5 is supported on Win2008 64-bit, so you should be good there.

I imagine you'll want to consider upgrading EV itself sooner than later, as it's getting on the edge of no longer being supported by Symantec.

Thanks a lot for all the info.  I really wish we could upgrade our EV servers to the lastest and greatest, but my organzation has decided to migrate all of our mail to Google, so Exchange will be going away crying.  We will only be using Evault to restore archives to PST.
