We're trying to migrate from Windows Server 2003 to 2008 this year and Ghost 2.0 to 2.5.1.  We're currently using the 3com boot services to boot to PXE for ghostcasting and it works great.  How would I do the same on 2008 server?  I installed the 3Com boot services but there was no 3com PXE or TFTP server included.  Everything I'm finding says 3com boot services isn't supported for 2008 server.  If that's the case, how do I boot to PXE on a 2008 server with Ghost 2.5.1?  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

For a WIndows 2008 Server, you would need to use a different PXE solution, such as Windows Deployment Services (WDS). Here is an article that goes over this setup:

Using Ghost with Windows Deployment Services 2008

I hope that helps! It is a more complicated setup, but it works very well.

    Thank you,

Is WDS the only option?  Are there some other simpler options?  I'll look into WDS as well.  Thanks for the info.

Not that I'm aware of. My advice would be to consider retaining a Windows 2003 box for this purpose, or maybe even just a virtual machine running Windows 2003.

    Thank you,

    Hi Folks..

Just on the move from 2.5 to 2.51, is it correct that the license file in 2.5 won't work in 2.5.1?

I'd like to clarify this before I upgrade to 2.5.1 in case I lose everything.  Why would the license file not work given that it is an incremental update

    Hi,

You can go ahead and proceed to move to 2.5.1 from 2.5 with the same license file.
License file for your version 2.5 will work with 2.5.1.
Regarding your database you can take a backup by using GSS backup_db.wsf in the scripts folder.
which will create a backup on your My Documents in the folder name GSS_BACKUP.
Later you can restore the database by clicking on retore_db.wsf.

    Thank you
