  • 1.  Move SEP clients from one existing server to another existing server.

I have just created a new 12,1 MP3 SEPM with SQL database. I need to migrate the clients from the old existing SEPM with embedded database.

In the past I had used the instructions in this article: http://aka-community.symantec.com/connect/pt-br/forums/move-sep-11-clients-one-existing-server-another-existing-server to migrate clients to a new sepm.

I know with 12 I can push out a communications update package or drop the new syslink.xml file. The problem is I do not have admin access to a lot of the clients so this option worked great for me.

I had gotten this to work with 12.1 and migrated over 4000 clients this way. Unfortuntely I mistakenly edited the policy which caused it to stop working and I haven not been able to get it to work again.

Has anyone sucessfully done this with 12.1? Do I just need to copy the syslink.xml file over from the new SEPM or are there other files that need to be copied also?

I only need to overwrite the existing syllink.xml under C:\Program Files\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager\data\outbox\agent\ on the server for the new group?

I am not updating anything on the clients. I want to do it on the server as stated in the link I provided so when the clients check in they pull down the policy for the new SEPM.

Once you have replaced the sylink it should communicate if its not then open the sylink in a wordpad and make sure the new server name reflects

    Dear,

In my case Sylink did not do as expected. Finally did the following.

From new server, under client, add client, then deployment type, select create a package for SEP clients that run on windows.

Select the group, then Policy mode, Remote Push, Select the client - thats all.

Make sure the client added to the group.

Note: if you assigned an Install Package to the group then, it will be exported to client by default.

    Thanks,

    APK

    Hi,

To restore communcation from client side need Sylink.xml file but to restore communication from SEPM perform DR steps.

Move Endpoint Protection Manager to another server without breaking client communications or losing data
