  • 1.  Move SEPM to another server

    Posted Aug 24, 2011 03:43 AM

    Hi All,

In recently I'm planning to upgrade our current SEP 11 to 12. I meet below issue and was seeking if I could get any help here.

The current SEPM is running on a server with some other services with embedded database. And I was plan to move the SEPM service to a dedicate server during the upgrade chance.

The first plan is to install another new SEPM server(12.1) and join to the farm, then to remove the old SEPM server. However, it looks we cannot achieve this way is because the embedded database doesn't support multiple servers but must SQL Server.

OK, so I was thinking if we could migrate the database from embedded DB to SQL Server then it will fulfill my requirement. Or if you guys have any other suggestion?

You install the SEPM on new server and add as a replication partner to the existing one, once the replication is successfull set the Management Server List priority 1 being the new server IP and priority 2 being the old server. Once the client communicate to the new SEPM, remove the old SEPM.

    Hi,

I'd recommend the following links for starters:

Moving from embedded to MS SQL:

    http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH102547

    Moving SEPM server:

    http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH104389

    Moving SEPM's MS SQL database:

    http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH104723

The old SEPM and the new SEPM should have the same version for this to work. So if you're still in 11, move it to the new server, then upgrade. If it is already on 12, then install 12 on the new machine.

    Hello,

In your case, you have lots of options

    1) Move SEPM version 11 from old machine to New machine.

    http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH104389

and then Migrate to the Latest version of SEPM 12.1

and then Move the database to SQL.

    2) Migrate the SEPM version 11 to SEPM 12.1 http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH163602

then move the database to SQL

and then move the SEPM to new Server.

    3) Move the SEPM version 11 Embedded database to SQL http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH102547

then Migrate SEPM to Latest version of 12.1

and move the SEPM to latest Server

    and so on..

Here are few Disaster Recovery Articles (very helpful Documents)
