Move workstations from 6.9 server to new 7.1 server
Created: 20 Jan 2013 | 3 comments
I have around 500 machines currently on our DS & NS 6.9 environment, and 200 machines on our new 7.1 environment.
The 6.9 and 7.1 platforms are both on different servers.
What's the best way to migrate the machines from the 6.9 server and point to the 7.1 server?
Do I just push the agent from the 7.1 to the 6.9 machines? will this auto update/re-point the agent?
OR do I need to remove Aclient and Dclient individually, then deploy the 7.1 Management Agent?
Any advice appreciated :) Thanks in advance

The 7.1 Symantec Management Agent (including the Deployment plug-in) can co exist with the DS 6.9 Client and DAgent, but not with the 6.0 Altiris Agent (for NS 6.0).
Unless you have migrated data from NS 6.0 to 7.1 the easiest way to migrate 6.0 Altiris Agents from the 6.0 NS to 7.1 is to use the DS to uninstall the 6.0 agent (aexagentutil /clean) and install the 7.0 Symantec Management Agent. Otherwise I always uninstall all 6.0 sub agents before using an Agent policy on 6.0 to move the base 6.0 Altiris agent to 7.1.
If you want to retire DS 6.9 as well as retiring NS 6.0 you can just uninstall the AClient or DAgent using 7.1 once you are satisfied that the 7.1 Symantec Management Agent is working OK. But lots of places use DS 6.9 and 7.1 together, they just don't bother with DS 7.1.
