  • 1.  Moving and upgrading SEPM when old license is expired

I have SEPM 11 running on Windows server 2000, and I need to move this to a server running 2008, and upgrade it to SEPM 12. I plan to follow the advice given in https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/forums/upgrading-symantec-endpoint-manager-another-server by installing SEPM 11 on the new server, migrating control over to it, uninstalling on the old server, and then upgrading to SEPM 12.

There is, however, one possible problem - the license for version 11 of the software expired 2 days ago. I have a new license for version 12, that starts from when the old one expired. What problems is this likely to cause?

Can I install SEPM 11, and use the version 12 license? Alternatively, is there a grace period where I can use the expired V11 license?

    Hi,

You will face any issue because  SEP 11.x is basically just a "paper" license product.  However, with SEP 12.1 the licensing is a "software" license product and uses a license file.

Can I install SEPM 11, and use the version 12 license? Alternatively, is there a grace period where I can use the expired V11 license

---> SEP 11.x won't required license to activate the product, install SEP 11.x then upgrade to SEP 12.1. After successfully upgrade use license to activate product because SEP 12.1 is software license product.
