Moving of Netbackup 6.5 from a master server to a new master server
Dears ,
I have a project in which we will move the netbackup 6.5 from a master to a newly installed master server and both servers are running windows 2008
and it's needed to be moved with all the same configuration , policies and everything except that the tape library will be replaced by an HP VTL
Also he had just bought new agents that will be needed to installed
so what I thought of as a solution is just to install the netbackup 6.5 on the new master server and then restore the catalog backup and then change the master server to the hostname of the newly installed master server and then reconfigure the new VTL and delete the tape libraray and install the new agents
is that right ? or there are any other more professional solution
your help and support is highly appreciated :)
Thanks in advance ,

You cannot change the hostname of the master server.
You will need a partner who specializes in this to do this. Changing the name of the Master server is not supported.

Also NetBackup 6.5 is EOSL since 3rd October.
You can follow these steps to migrate to new hardware: http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH77447

Thanks so much for your reply :)
You helped me a lot in understanding the beginning steps that I should plan for before going on with the hardware refresh
I'd like to ask you more questions if you don't mind please
What if after I completed the migration successfully to the new hardware and I want to configure new HP D2D appliance to be my main backup library ? Is there any recommendations and what are the steps or docmunets that shows the steps of configuring the new D2D appliance to be my main destination instead of the old tape library which will be decomissioned
Second question :
I have a new tape library as well which I want to take an offsite backup to
so what do you recomment for me : to have a seperate backup job which take the same backup afterwards to the tape library so having two seperate jobs for the same backup one to the D2D and the other to tape library ?
or
there is an option on the netbackup which enable me to juct copy the backup from the D2D directly to the tape library without having an impact on the client and having the same backup twice on each same client ? and if so is there a specific license needed for such feature?
Thanks again for your help
