This is probably very easy and I’ll have a ‘doh’ moment when I see the solution, but I’ll ask anyway.  I am using PGP Desktop 9.10 to decrypt files from a vendor.  We are moving the job (and software) to another unit (and user) and I’m having problems moving the public and private key to that user so they can decrypt the file when it comes in.  I’ve looked through the documentation and I’m either missing the instructions or they are not there.  Any help/instructions would be greatly appreciated.

From within PGP Desktop, select Export - keyring from the File menu.  Have the keyrings available on the new computer before installing PGP, the install will ask you if you already have keyrings, and you can then select to have PGP copy them to the default location.

Thanx .. .. I'll give that a shot this evening.  Can't do it today as the other unit is in production.  I'll let you know tomorrow morning!!  :)

I tried what you suggested last night and it didn't work.  Since I had already installed the software, I had to uninstall the original.  I also deleted anything that referenced PGP from the registry.  When I installed the software, it seemed to install fine but did not ask about keyrings.  So I tried to decrypt one of our files and received the following error:

This object was encrypted to the following public key(s):

                   XXXXXXXXXX
                   XXXXXXXXXX

It is not possible to decrypt this message because your keyring
does not contain usable private key(s) corresponding to any of
              above public key(s).

My only option is to cancel.

My question is can I transfer the private key from my PC to the new one??

I didn't realize that you had already installed PGP on the new computer, which is why it did not ask about keyrings on this install.  If it is only your key you need, you can right click on your key in PGP Desktop, select Export, making sure that you then make the selection to include the private key in the export, and then save the key to your desired location.  On the new machine, double click on the key to start the import of it.  You will then need to right click on the imported key in PGP Desktop, select Properties and set Trust to Implicit.

Look back at my first post .. .. I told you it would be a 'DOH!!' moment.  Guess what?!?  DOH!!!

I fogot to check the 'include private keys' box when exporting.  I must have exported the keys a half dozen times and never noticed that.

This is done and we are working.  Thank you for your time.

That's easy to overlook - glad you have this resolved.
