moving from raid array to internal ide drive - ghost wont work?

Got a server that, at the moment, runs from hardware RAID array which
basically presents as a 36GB logical drive. This is then partitioned
into C, D and E (with windows 2000 on C).

We want to get rid of the RAID and just use a single internal 40Gb
drive.

Tried using Ghost and it backs up the RAID disks no problem, and seems
to install on the new internal disk.

Trouble is it fails to boot with UNACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE. I assume
this because the boot disk is now totally different?

Is there any way to fix this? Would editing boot.ini or using bootcfg
(http://support.microsoft.com/kb/291980) sort this out?

Or maybe use Acronis true image with universal restore because I know
this will restore to different hardware (unlike ghost)?

Problem is not in that disk

Problem is not in that disk is different but in that Windows that you cloned was using entirely different storage drivers to what you cloned it to.
You need 'restore to dissimilar hardware'. Ghost does support restore anywhere - it is called 'Deploy anywhere' and it is available sometime ago starting from GSS 2.5 (ghost 11.5). You can either run it manually after you cloned your disk or if you clone from Console then it is as simple as turning on a 'deploy anywhere' checkbox.

Check boot.ini

I assume that the internal IDE port has always been active on this machine?  If so, then the boot.ini may well need updating to correctly reflect the volume number of your IDE device.

Also, have you checked whether the IDE device has been set "Active"

Finally, does your system require any specific drivers for the IDE port?  Normally, I would expect a standard IDE port to work perfectly with windows plug and play, meaning that your RAID drivers would just not get loaded when booting from IDE, but should your hardware require any IDE drivers due to having some non standard hardware, then this would require these drivers to be incorporated into your image. Probably easier to do this with the RAID set booted and just install any additional IDE drivers, then try ghosting again,
