  • 1.  Moving SEEM to new server

I need to replace a SEEM Server 2003 OS 32 Bit with Server 2008 R2 64 Bit in the same AD forest.  I currently see two options.
    1. Build a new server as "servername-new" and when ready remove SEEM from the current server and rename the new server to the old name and restore the installation.   The assumption is the clients will all keep pointing to the new server with the old name without issue.  Is there a restore procedure to new hardware and OS version including 32->64 bit?
    2. Build a new server with a new name and install the SEEM on it.  Now the clients need to talk to a new server name.  New client packages and other settings would need an update.
The database is external on SQL 2005.  I have 250 clients from 7.0.3 to 7.0.6 on the old server.  Manadatory check in not required.  Single Sign On  is enabled.

Does anyone know of a Symantec technical guide to do one of these (or another) procedure to replace the 2003 server with 2008 with or without the name change?  Of course minimal client disruption and administrative work (visiting the clients) is preferred.

    Thanks.

You could always just build the new server and use a DNS alias to point the old name to the new server?
