  • 1.  Moving SEP clients to another SEPM server

    Posted May 14, 2014 10:52 AM

    Hello,

I'm working on a migration from SEP 11 to SEP 12. First I have upgraded the SEPM version 11 server to version 12. Then I have pushed the version 12 installer to my clients which are now all on the latest version and reporting to the upgraded version 12 SEPM server.

The last part of the migration is assigning a new SPM 12 managment server (different hostname & IP address) for the clients to report to.

I have used this tech document http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH199292 to add the new SEPM server to the Management Server List on the current Management Server with Priority 1. That all seems clear and pretty straight forward but after 5 hours none of the clients is reporting to the new server. I have tried to manually update the client policy to no avail, it keeps reporting to the old server.

Am I missing something here? Any advice is appreciated.

You need to replace the sylink file. Follow this document:

From the sounds of it, you have not performed the Disaster Recovery or Replcation steps in setting up the new SEPM, is that right?

In missing these steps, it means that the new SEPM has a different set of certificates attached to it, so the clients will not talk to it.

I'd recommend following the steps identified by _Brian (Thumbs Up as always yes), or taking a look at my post in the below threads for using SyLinkDrop to change the communications files on the SEP Clients to repoint them at the new SEPM:

Thanks guys, indeed I have not used the Disaster Recovery / Replication, just installed the new server.

I have just pushed the communication package to one client, see if it now reports to new server. Will update here.

Edit: It works, I'm gonna push the package to all the clients now. Thanks again!

    Hi,

Thank you for posting in Symantec community.

Migration and upgrade are two different terminologies.

What you mentioned is somehow confusing, if you had to install a fresh SEPM in the environment then why did you upgrade the existing 11.x version SEPM to 12.1?

Total how many clients are in the network?

Now best way can be either perform a disaster recovery or replication.
