This issue has been solved. See solution.

Hi,

We are investigating the idea of Deploying MR4 to our MR2 fleet and I have a few question that I cannot find answers for.

1) Will an MR4 Client communicatewith an MR2 SEPM Server backend?

2) Will an MR4 SEPM Server backend communicate with MR2 PC Clients?

3) Is there a way of scheduling and controling the deployment of MR4, i.e. controlling deployment times and reboot control?

I have read this  and this but then do not fully answer my questions.

Thanks

Yes, certainly will

1. The only supported setup is when the server version is higher than the clients.

2. MR4 will happily managed all older versions of SEP although moving clients to MR4 should be a priority

3. Scheduling really depends on your deployment methodology although you cant really control it if you are doing the upgrades through SEPM itself as the clients will get updated as they check in.

If you deploy using login scripts, group policy, altiris etc. then you gain full control.

Let me add that it will happen very slowly.

MR99 will fix it all.

Thanks for the responses you have confirmed our initial suspicions on the deployment methodology.

so, you're saying that it is better to keep MR2 client with MR2 server than just upgrading the client without upgrading the server?

I just upgrading all my client from MR2 to MR4, will i having problem in the future?
