Are Windows Server 2008 R2 and SP2 the same?

No, Windows Server 2008 R2 is the next release of Windows Server. SP2 is a service pack for the current version of Windows 2008 Server.

Second

I second that.  I thought there was an issue but I think the issue was that the server didn't have any new virus defs to hand out.  So it took about 45 minutes until the client was totally happy.  Thanks for the info everyone.

MR4.MP2 will install on W2K8 R2, only as unmanaged Client

MR4.MP2 will install on W2K8 R2, only as unmanaged Client, will have to wait for MR5 for full compatibility.

MR4.MP2 will install on W2K8 R2, as managed Client too

MR4.MP2 will install on W2K8 R2, you just need to install live update first and install SEP after that. You can also convert unmanaged client into managed one with symlink drop.

 SEPM will not install

SEPM will not install correctly on 2008R2. It looks like it does - but It only installs the one SEPM service and you cannot login to the console, and the websites don't work. Now I have to wait again...
