This issue has been solved. See solution.

I have had an issue brought to my attention today by my help desk.  We have upgraded one department to office 2007 and they are saying that the .doc files are taking much longer to open since we went from mr3 to mr4mp2.  We have XP sp2 as the OS 2 gig of ram in the system from what I am being told and I am still getting access to the files to test my self is that it is minutes longer opening the file has anyone else seen or heard of this?

We've had the same issue with

We've had the same issue with every single version of MR3 and MR4, and in fact, I think it started with MR2 - it's been happening since last December, and I figured all the updates would make it better.
We're talking 2 minutes to save a document, a minute to open it.

HOWEVER, there's also indications that it's Word being part of hte cause, otherwise Cisco would not have their Word speed-up products!
But fact is, if you totally and fully remove SEP, they do open faster...........

We've had this problem mainly

We've had this problem mainly for users that we *upgraded* Office from 2003 to 2007.  Our solution was this: http://howtotroubleshoot.blogspot.com/2008/05/double-clicked-documents-slow-to-open.html  Not sure if it will help you, but worth a try.

EDIT: Specifically, the following helped:
1.Go to Control Panel > Folder Options > File Types
2.Find and select Word Documents (DOC)
3.Click the Advanced button
4.Select Open in the Actions section
5.Click the Edit button
6.Uncheck "Use DDE"
7.Put your cursor on the "Application used to perform action:" box
8.Arrow all the way to the right and put in "%1" (include the quote marks)
9.If there is a /dde remove it
10.Click OK, then OK, then OK
11.Try to open another document

I tried on a SP2 and SP3

I tried on a SP2 and SP3 machine and didn't seem to have any issues. Running word 2007 SP2 and latest version of SEP. Word was upgraded from 2003. SAV to latest version MR4 MP2 upgrade (no other SEP versions)

Are these normal documents or complicated ones?
We are running in office compatibility mode, don't know if that makes a difference

documents

I am still waiting for the helpdesk to get me a copy of the document.  From what I hear the main one causing the issue is a 800 page document that was first created in word 2003
