Desktop Email Encryption

I am experimenting with Windows 7 Ultimate x64 / Symantec Encryption Desktop and Microsoft Outlook Connector x64 in order that I migrate my employees to this new system.

I understand that Microsoft Outlook Connector uses a proprietary protocol called "DeltaSync" in order to sync calendars, emails, contacts, etc.  I believe that it connects to Outlook.com using SSL.

Is this why the email encryption component of Symantec Encryption desktop DOES NOT WORK WITH MS OUTLOOK CONNECTOR????

It worked before using POP and IMAP.

Any help or direction in this matter would be greatly appreciated.

What versions of the software are you running here?  I'd suggest checking out the below article for guidance:

I guess I identified every bit of relevant software, except for Symantec's.

I am running Symantec Encryption Desktop 10.3.2 MP6.

I read Article Tech203618, but to be honest, I don't think it applies to me.  I don't see any mention of MS Outlook Connector used to connect MS Outlook to Outlook.Com via DeltaSync, Microsoft's proprietary email/calendar/contacts/etc protocol.

"Symantecs" aside, I am using everything in my original post, all software up to date, and I just want the email encryption part of Encryption Desktop to work with MS Outlook Connector.

Does it or am I doing something wrong?

    Thanks.

As far as I can see, there's no mention of the version of Outlook you're running?  Nor do I see confirmation of if the Outlook.com account you're connecting with is Office365-based, or a WindowLive/Hotmail account.

As far as the article goes, WindowsLive/Hotmail accounts do not appear to be supported I'm afraid.

I think you answered my question, but for clarity.....I'll state the software I was using:

    MS Outlook 2010.

    WindowsLive/Hotmail

    MS Connector x64 14.0.6123.5001

    Symantec Encryption Desktop 10.3.2 MP6.

    Windows 7 x64 Ultimate

If the above changes anything in your opinion above, please let me know.

    Thanks.

If Outlook is set to connect to a web-based email client using POP or IMAP, it should work in theory.  I think you are exactly right, the issue would come from using a different protocol.  We have no support for the DeltaSync protocol in our product.

You should still potentially be able to decrypt messages in PGP Viewer, but encrypting or decrypting directly through Outlook will probably not function appropriately.

    Thank you for your response.

I have tried POP3 and IMAP and PGP Symantec Desktop Encryption/Email works.

DeltaSync syncs calendars, contacts, etc., across devices....not only emails.  DeltaSync is the protocol used by Outlook Connector to connecto to the web email at outlook.com.

I really wanted this to work.

Microsoft has really improved their mobile/cloud offerings.  I hope as more people start to use them, Symantec sees an opportunity in supporting Microsoft's proprietary (albeit, annoying) protocols.

    Thanks again.

I'd suggest submitting this as an "Idea" post on the forums.  If it gains enough community support then it will improve the changes of Symantec supporting it.

It's still worth bearing in mind though, that Hotmail/WindowsLive is not typically viewed as a business level email solution, whereas Office365 is, and is supported according to my earlier linked article.
