Hello,

Just wondering if anyone else out there is seeing the update for Visio 2007 from MS11-008 (visio2007-kb2434737-fullfile-x86-glb.exe) reinstalling repeatedly, and failing with a 17025 exit code ("Error patch already installed")?  This has been an issue in the past and seemed to be due to the Is Installed rule checking for a .DLL file which is not always installed with Visio (depending on what options you choose during installation).  For some reason the rule looks for some .DLL (say, maybe uml.dll), finds it is NOT present on the system, and immediately flags the machine as "Vulnerable" since this DLL which wasn't present to begin with STILL isn't present.

Not I.  I typically troubleshoot these from the Microsoft side of things, running the .exe manually, checking logs in Event Viewer, and searching for known issues with the Microsoft patch.  Then I apply fixes, test until a successful fix is found, and apply it to the vulnerable group.  This is all assuming that Microsoft doesn't update the bulletin, in which case PMImport would grab it for you and resolve the issue.

I had sent an email to the Product Manager for Patch (after previously conversing with him on this same topic about 6+ months ago) and he confirmed it can be a problem in particular/minimum installation scenarios.  We don't "tweak" our Visio 2007 Standard install too much as far as removing functions, so it may be limited to Visio 2007 Standard only.  In any case, he said the issue has been resolved by the Patch data team and should be incorporated into the Feb 2011 (4th week) PMImport, which I guess would be this week (or maybe 2/28; not sure).

We have analyzed the issue for the MS11-008_visio2007-kb2434737-fullfile-x86-glb.exe update and found that update is reinstalling with Exit Code 17025 on the Visio 2007 with minimal installation.

This fix will be available in schedule release of Feb'11 fourth week release.
