MS12-A07 Unable to download/distribute

Created: 16 Oct 2012 | 7 comments

When attempting to set up a policy for Microsoft Security Advisory MS12-A07, only 5 of 6 updates will download, so the policy creation fails.  I was able to identify the failing download as http://download.microsoft.com/download/1/2/D/12D65C3C-B1E0-4519-AAB5-4D099B374CA8/WindowsXP-KB2661254-x86-ENU.exe because I can see it retrying this URL 3 times.  This appears to be a Mircosoft issue.  When I plug the URL into a browser, I get a file download diablogue box.  However, clicking save kicks out an error, "Unable to open this Internet site.  The requested site is either unavailable or cannot be found.  Please try again later."  What has to be done to get this corrected?  Does Symantec need to contact Microsoft?

Have you tried this:

"Patch MS12-A07 (KB2661254) could not be downloaded"

http://www.symantec.com/connect/forums/patch-ms12-...

"...This should be solved by running the metadata import task again."

Tried a MetaData Import, and it did not help.  So, I also did a Patch Import, but that failed to help as well.  I am still getting the retries one on download.

[1 / 3] Pausing for 00:00:20, then retrying download of http://download.microsoft.com/download/1/2/D/12D65C3C-B1E0-4519-AAB5-4D099B374CA8/WindowsXP-KB2661254-x86-ENU.exe

Try going to Home > Patch Management > Settings > Metadata Import Task and deselect Incremental Import.

Hi stressler,

this is a known issue covered in http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH198445 and corresponding team is looking into this - I'll post an update when get more information.

Problem is resolved in the latest PM Import 7.1.362 - I was able to stage all updates from MS12-A07:

I was able to get this working after a non-incremental MetaData Import followed by a Patch Import.  I do not know if it got fixed because I needed the full MetaData import or if I ended up getting PM Import 7.1.362 while doing this.  Thank everyone for your input.

Sounds like it was a problem with the PMI file
