  • 1.  msoobe.exe error after sysprep

Built a new XP Pro SP2 machine. Ran sysprep. Booted to a Bart PE cd and ran Ghost32. Pushed image to our Ghost server. All steps are the same ones I have been using successfully for years. When the imaged machine reboots after the push to the Ghost server, I get an error "an exception occured with msoobe.exe". After clicking "ok" I get another window that tells me "setup is not complete" and the machine reboots. I have never seen this problem before and I'm wondering if it has to do with one of the recent Updates from MS.

I found it! Windows Media Player 11. I took that off my next build and Ghost image was all back to normal.

Actually, instead of creating an entirely new build, ghost your pre-sysprep image back to the master then simply remove mp11 by using the add/remove programs from your current build.  I always ghost up to the server before modifying it with sysprep just incase. Seems to me there was 2 entries in the add/remove programs for MP11 and I removed both of them. Re-sysprep system and the new client boots just fine into mini setup. When I heard the Windows setup tune, it was music to my ears.. :)

Thanks for the initial posts. They pointed me on the right direction and by removing MP11, saved me at least 3 hrs of build time.

    Cheers
