Multi-threading in backup Exec
Updated: 21 May 2010 | 5 comments
Dear All,
Few months back I spoke with the one of the Symantec Guy.
He told me to put this suggestion in the forum so that it will take priority,
.... ofcource....after the response from you all...
I have suggested the following thing to be included in the Backup Exec :
Multi-Threading Backup ( Same functionality like EMC Networker)
Description : It Should backup all drives at a time on single drive itself.
Thanks a Lot in Advance!

I believe this might be a function of Symantec NetBackup - which is usually described as the competitive product for EMC Networker.
Also suggest you use the ideas section within Symantec Connect - see tabs near top of the forums screen - to post this idea as then other customers can vote on it and therefor provide better feedback to the Symantec Product management team
Thanks! But Symantec also
Thanks! But Symantec also should consider the same functionality in the Backup Exec.

Hi
This functionality is not there in backup exec , but is definately there in Netbackup with the name "Multiplexing" . I doubt if this functionality would be there in next release if backup exec.
Note: If this post provides you with a solution don't forget to mark the discussion as solved.
Yep assuming EMC Networker
Yep assuming EMC Networker and NetBackup are both much more expensive than Backup Exec then it would appear to be an advanced option that is only available in the sorts of products that are marketed for large scale enterprises. As such it is unlikely to appear in a product that is mainly aimed at medium and small scale companies
Multiplexing is not what it
Multiplexing is not what it seems. Yes faster backups, but also equally slower restores.
That said, I'll take faster restores any day.
Just write simultaneous jobs to disk, and duplicate to tape. multiple jobs to disk is almost similar to multiplex, but with better performance in more scenarios.
There is an online portal, save yourself the long hold times. Create ticket online, then call in with ticket # in hand :-) http://mysupport.symantec.com "We backup data to restore, we don't backup data just to back it up."
