Multicast from Console

Created: 29 Jan 2013 | 1 comment

I am working with Ghost 11.5 and would like to automate our Ghosting process. I have PXE boot set up and can initiate an image task from a client computer. I would like to be able to do this with multiple computers. If I have one computer running the reimage task, I have to wait for that one to finish before I start another. Is there a way to reimage multiple computers using PXE boot and console?

Thank you

If you are PXE booting, why bother with the console at all ?

Create a WinPE image that will be loaded via the PXE boot, and which will then connect to a share where your images are stored, together with a copy of the Ghost executable. Then you can use a bit of WMI code to detect the machine it is running on, and pull down the appropriate image from a lookup table on the source, and write it to the local hard disk.  That gives you a fully automated imaging process from the moment you PXE boot.

I've done exactly the same thing but using local USB hard disks so that field technicians can rebuild machines without having to do anything other than select the USB device as the boot device.
