  • 1.  Multicasting Ghost Image without Multicast Enabled on Network.

    Hi,

I am looking to mutlicast without having multicast setup on my routers.

I was hoping to do this via a local switch connected to a site server and my clients.

Does anyone work around this problem?

In order to do this without setting anything on your switches and routers, you would need to have the server and clients on the same switch.

Alright,  I have a site server and all the clients connected to a local switch.

I am still unable to have them successfully multicast.

With this setup what steps would you take to have this work successfully?

Is this a manged switch (or capable of being managed)?  If it is, it may not be enabled on that switch to allow multicasting or igmp/cgmp multicasting.

Not being terribly familiar with 7.x, I can't speak to how it is done in that area.  I do know Ghost by itself, using GhostCast should work for sure.

I was mainly trying to answer the question from a network aspect.  This document might help as it does walk through some of the basics in multicasting for both Ghost and RDeploy in Altiris 7.x.
