Hi mikeb90,
Our experience of multicasting is that you can come a cropper when the endpoints are hung off cheap switches. The lower end of the hardware market has a higher chance of not supporting IGMP snooping. This feature is required to ensure multicast traffic can pass the hardware boundary.
I've not seen a whitepaper on this and not sure there is one as the advice is simply to have enabled IGMP.
In summary, make sure that if clients in a multicast group are likely to cross switches that IGMP snooping is enabled on those switches.
Kind Regards,
Ian./
