Multiple Computers showing up in DS6.5 when laptop connects via Wi-FI

ITCNB's picture

Hello Everyone:

I have an issue with laptop users in Deployment Solution:

We have users that connect back to our Domain 3 ways..

1. Wifi
2. Interntal Nic
3. Verizon Broadcard card VPN Tunnel.

Then when I look at our Deployment Solution I see 3 different instances of that computer on DS only one of the them is active? I know that DS uses MAC address to remember differnet computers but since we have users that use 3 methods of connection that equals to 3 different mac address is there a tool that allows for this to correct the error.

Change the primary key in DS

Deployment by defaults uses MAC address as its primary key, just like in NS there is a ResourceGuid that is used for te primary key. I think you can set it to Mac Address or Serial Number as the primary key... DOn't have DS installed right now to look...

Change Primary Key

Fortunately I do have DS installed right now. Go to tools, then options. Click the Global tab. There should be an option for primary lookup key. I'm on DS 6.9 and it currently gives me the options of Serial Number, Asset Tag, UUID, and MAC Address. The options may be different in 6.5, but it still should have other options than just the MAC Address.

Side note-Jonathan, did you ever get my e-mail back regarding certification?

Use KB22202 to determine which lookup key you should use

Be sure to use KB22202 to help you determine which lookup key(s) are okay to use in your environment.
