Sylink.xml

Hi,

I suppose that you did not recover server from backup. Your clients are configured via sylink.xml configuration file to connect to old server. Replace this file on each client for new one which you can generate through SEPM console (Right Click a Group of computers and Export settings). You can use SylinkDrop tool from install CD2 to replace Sylink.xml.

Search this forum for scenarios how to do it. There is a Sylinkreplacer tool available from Symantec to do more clients at the same time.

Regards

David

different ID

It doesn't work because the server and domain ID are different from the one on your previous server. So you have 2 options:

  • Replace the Sylink.xml file on all clients as mentioned by David
  • Do a proper restore of SEPM as specified in the Appendix B of the installation guide (Disaster Recovery)

tech support

open a case with symantec technical support to request SylinkReplacer. With it you can replace sylink.xml on several PC from a central location. Otherwise replace it one by one with SylinkDrop which can be found on SEP_CD2\Tools\NoSupport\SylinkDrop.

Best of luck!

Your other option...

Your other option would be to re-deploy the client from the "new" SEPM server.
In re-deployment, the old client should be removed and replaced with the new client which contains a copy of the "new" SYLINK.XML file.

This could also fix your problem, but will put an extra load on the network.

I have an idea, may be I can create a reg file, its contents will be replacing the old value by the new SYLINK.XML

i will send this file for all users of windows station, of corse, the restart of windows stations is needed

What do you think about this solution?

Two ways to replace

Two ways to replace Sylink.xml.

#1. One mentioned by david. Further suggestion, make a IP.TXT file and write IP Iddress of each workstation, one per line, in a plain text format. Snd ask sylink replacer utility to use that file. It can happen in a snap. This you can do it from SEPM.

#2. For an unmanaged clients, you can use Communication Import facility in each client. Avaialble at Open SEP Client, click help and support, commnication setting, Import. Use the file geenrated above, in David's solution.
