    Hey Guys,

We have been experiencing some issues with our CMS Server lately. On looking at the log viewer it appears that there is an issues with guid's mapping to resources. Below is an example of an entry we found in the log:

    Log File Name: C:\ProgramData\Symantec\SMP\Logs\a.log
    Priority: 1
    Help and Support:
    Date: 03/08/2012 15:31:10
    Tick Count: 1223656413
    Host Name:
    Process: w3wp (55676)
    Thread ID: 79
    Module: w3wp.exe
    Source: Altiris.SoftwareManagementSolution.SoftwareDelivery.ManagedDeliveryPolicy.OnBuildClientConfigXml2
Description: Failed to execute policy - Workstation Hardware Delta Inventory on resource - d4a5f735-4b77-40cb-86e9-e69ae4961cf6. Reason: The specified resource don't have SWM plug-in installed or inventory is yet to be updated on the server, Product ad3f5980-d9e9-11d3-a318-0008c7a09198)

I have not seen this before and we have made no changes to our environment for sometime now. Has anyone seen this before and could advise on a resolution.

    Many Thanks

Have you looked at the computer attached to GUID d4a5f735-4b77-40cb-86e9-e69ae4961cf6?  Does it really have all the plugins installed, or is it perhaps a new computer?

plug-ins installed? And does the base Agent on the PC show the same GUID?

Does Basic Inventory on the Server for that GUID show the plug-ins?

Sorry should have added that I am seeing only guid's in the log file for the Resource Membership Updates and any entry that refers to either a client machine or filter.

    Log File Name: C:\ProgramData\Symantec\SMP\Logs\a.log
    Priority: 4
    Date: 06/08/2012 09:42:28
    Tick Count: 1461939626
    Host Name:
    Process: w3wp (26908)
    Thread ID: 61
    Module: w3wp.exe
    Source: Altiris.NS.StandardItems.Collection.NSDataSrcBasedResourceCollection.FullUpdatePostDataSrcProcessing
Description: Updating collection membership for collection '6d05ac39-2cbf-4da0-bca1-0e64ca22a59c' with 0 members.

I am able to push job and tasks to clients but am slightly concerned that we have an issue with the passing of guids into 'real' names.

Try doing a SQL Trace on the SQL server and see if the queries to resolve the GUIDs to names are being put through.

    Is the GUID underlined?

The GUID is underlined in the log browser. I'll try a trace on the SQL server, hopefully this will show up something.

When clicking on link there was no data displayed in any of the tabs. I have since rebooted the server and all is working now.
