  • 1.  NAS Devices for package deployment

    Posted May 20, 2008 01:28 PM

We are looking at the LaCie (1 TB) NAS device to store our packages for remote retreival. http://www.lacie.com/products/product.htm?pid=10877

    My questions are:

    1. Is this device compatible with Altiris?

    2. Is there a better solution for under $1,000?

    3. What are some of you currently using?

    4. Any recommendations?

    Thanks for the input.

A couple of questions: 1. How many packages are you going to be storing at a remote site? 2. Can you install the Altiris Agent and Package Server on the NAS? 3. Can you turn an existing box that has free disk space into a package server? (Whether or not its an admins box or a server that isnt' doing a lot of other things at that remote site) Jonathan Jesse Director of Training ITS Partners

We are using virtual servers as package servers and get good results from them. This could be an option if you already have the ability to use virtual.

Are we now talking about packaging with WPS or SVS? I run both on virtual servers. But we are not answering the question. The Lacie NAS is a very good one for low money. I'm planning buying one myself. It can NOT be managed by Altiris, but it can be used to store wps and svs packages. If you need the additional space, go get one yourselve. But remind that it needs to be a raid NAS. If it is not, you better can buy some additional harddisks. Regards Erik www.dvs4sbc.nl
